My gas pedal on my K5 is extremely "heavy" it takes alot of force to push it. Im use to it, but taking to shop after shop to have repairs, everyone complains about it. lol. I dont really care about them complaining, but is the pedal suppose to be pretty stiff? Its not the return springs, I had double springs and then went to single and it changed nothing.

Could it be time for a new gas cable?

what should I look for or check?

Thanks

**UPDATE**

Took cable off gas pedal, pedal moved freely. I sprayed some silicone spray on the cable and in the housing by the gas pedal and some on the carb spring. Now it works great, pedal moves very nicely now. Never know how nice it could be. It has always been stiff since the day I got it. lol.

Disconnect the cable from the pedal and see if the pedal moves freely now, if it does then it's time for a new cable. If the pedal is still stiff then pull the pedal assembly out and inspect it and lube it or see that it isn't bent anywhere causing the stiff pedal.

I bought a truck that did the same thing a few months ago. The PO was selling it for this reason, said he couldn't stand driving it that way and couldn't get a shop to fix it. I thought something was binding so I unhooked the cable from the carb and could move it by hand easy as could be. Throttle plate on the carb was nice a free too. Hooked the cable back up and all was good never did figure out what was wrong, but didn't have any more trouble either.

I had a similar situation with my truck...The gas pedal was extremly hard to push but it was from the cable being bent from the PO put the path of the cable...I removed the cable and after multiple atemps found a route that worked and didn't cause the cable to bind.

Got any info on the rig? Year? Carb or TBI?

Reason I ask is cause the prev owner to my truck put return springs on the TBI to pull the throttle closed cause it had a high idle. Had a real stiff pedal. Nothing that would keep it from driving but super obnoxious. Turns out the real problem was a bad IAC valve, but the return springs he put on wore out the throttle shaft bushings. I had to replace the IAC and the throttle body with good used ones I had laying around then I could discard the return springs. Now the pedal is normal.

Its a 1984 K5, 305cid, with Holley Street avenger 570cfm

Ill check the routing of the cable and Ill check the peddle itself.

mine on my 90 suberban is real stiff, There are 3 cables going to it, one is the throttle, one is the cruise, one is the transmission cable maybe, i took off the trans cable and it was way better, hooked it back up, it was way stiff again, any ideas?

you sure the cable is in the right hole. the po of my dads 87 used the wrong hole. I put it on the top hole of the bracket and it is a lot smoother.

:DPerhaps the previous owner retrofit the pedal with a Toyota replacement ;)

My 87 did the same thing after several mudbogs .I took the cable off and sprayed wd40 on it while moving it it and out , worked fine after that
