Heavyleft submitted a new Build:

Heavyleft's K20 DD

Wasnt planning on doing a build thread on the K20 since nothing spectacular will be going on. But i figured i can use this thread to catalog the progress of small improvements and maintenance. Plan is a reliable daily driver, maybe some light duty trails.

Well, its a 1984 K20 350/sm465, 8 lug 10 bolt, 8 lug 14 bolt sf. The carb is a Rochester Quadrajet 750. The 350 was a fresh long block 44k miles prior to purchase 2 months ago. The mechanic annotated the odometer mileage on firewall in the engine bay.

The following is the Craigslist ad and some when I picked her up. No, the rack did not come with it.

Other than basic maintenance, Ive rebuilt the carburetor and installed manual locking hubs which netted me an additional 3-4 mpg's depending on driving style.

I forgot to mention this was a farm truck in SE Illinois for its entire life.

There was some rust through on the both rockers, drivers side pan and one cab corner which I replaced (sorry, pics of that tedious work). The bed was pretty well rusted out around the wheel wells. I couldnt find a decent bed on C-list so I set out to build a flat bed.

Tried out the wooden bed sides for a bit, mainly cause it was lumber i had on hand.

Building a cab protector.

And side rails

In the middle of making the flat bed, which is still a work in progress, i did the blazer tank swap and got rid of the single saddle tank.

Yup, Im tracking the tank is backwards. I like having the fill hose on the driver side. Seems to be more open pumps for drivers side and for ease of pumping, i dont have to walk around the truck...lol.
