i have a 94 astro van w/4.3L....i wanting to strip all the computer crap off of it and buy a carb intake, and put in a hei.

so i have a question....can you use a v8 hei in a v6, by putting a 6 cyl cap on the v8 dizzy?

also any opinions about going to carb on the 4.3? price wise how does the carb intake compare money/dependability versus buying the closed loop computer to keep the efi?

Im pretty sure they are different. checked the part numbers where I work and they come up different for hei v6 and hei v8 from the same years. not sure what is different though, it may work.

You would need to change the reluctor ring? under the rotor aswell provided the body will fit properly in the v6.

A 94 already has HEI but with a remote mounted coil. There is no reason to switch to the older style coil in cap type HEI.

Except the small-cap dizzy is computer controlled advance. I see a vacuum advance 4.3 hei in the yards from time to time, you may be able to just switch the caps though.

thanks

so i can keep the same dizzy when i go to a carb intake, and even be able to wire up a hotter coil!

i wasn't sure if the dizzy hooked up to the computer in anyway, its hard to see the rear of the engine in that van....

when you put in a 4.3L(which is obviously shorter than a v8) does it move the trans forward or are the motor mounts located on the v6 block, so engine to bellhousing stays in the same location as when a v8 is in the chasis?

Ok, i read your first post to quickly. You'll need to swap in a vacuum advance dizzy if you're going with a carb.

The motor mounts to the bellhousing are the same between SBC, BBC and the 4.3 V/6.

the distributor body is the same, you need to find an even fire v6 module for it though (1984-1985 astro van w/ v6 will work just fine for parts interchange), as well as an even fire cap for it (same van year will work for interchange info). Don't use a module or cap from a 229 v6 car, they are odd or semi-odd fire engines.
