Installed a long block 350 in my 72 blazer and the accel hei distributor that came with the motor did not fit due to the plastic top cap. I replaced it with another dust cap but its still has the plug wires rubbing the fire wall. Are ther some shorter style hei that work better.

You could always use the later style external coil HEI unit as they are much smaller in diameter than the earlier version.

Most people on those years either move the engine mount a bit forward, or beat the firewall for clearance, or now use the later model remot coil dist.
I would go with what Scott said, although I believe my 70 is having the engine a bit forward, but it wasn't me putting it in so I didn't make the choice.:dunno:

I've never been able to find a vacuum advance non computer small cap hei dizzy...

You know, you might be correct that they don't exist. A person could always go with a small body MSD dizzy though.

Ive never seen one that wasnt electronicly controlled either now that you say that.

I would try to just hammer the firewall for it to work, unless its a show truck or something.

Pertronix electronic ignition conversion for the Points Distributor

Perhaps one of those "crossfire" distributor caps Jegs sells might fit better--they arrange the wires so they come out on each side of the cap ,rather than straight up--and the wires on the right side of the engine go on the side of the cap pointing to rthem, same with the left side..no looping wires from one side to the other..

Have you got a link or manufacturer for this? Poked around on jegs and couldn't find that type dizzy.

Crossfire is the brand you probably will have to call jegs or summit to get a part number.they are about 50 bucks.google crossfire distributor cap.people run them in stret rods with tight clearances. There used to be another one that was called spyder cap or something like that.

i have the same problem.. but mine is due to a tcase drop.... im probably going to remove mine... and the problem will go away for me..
i was going to have a recommendation but after seeing your perdy blue pics.... it aint it..

my truck had a plastic insert... i cut it out.. and that gained from tight up against to just rubbing a bit only with wires...

Well, if you remove the distributer that will eliminate a lot of your problems.
Gas mileage, wear on the tires, running problems, all kinds of problems.......:D
