HEI dizzy upgrade

Plugs are plugs. Iridium's and what not appear to be the "norm" anymore, but for our engines, buy the AC Delco replacement that is spec'd for your engine.

Electricity ALWAYS takes the path of least resistance, all E3's do is shroud the spark from the mixture in the cylinder. If they were good, the OEM's would use them. E3's have been out long enough that were they as good as advertised, every OEM would be using them. They are not. That tells us everything we need to know.

Multiple/crazy 8 electrodes MAY help on an engine that burns oil and fouls plugs, but the solution isn't a high dollar plug. It's to fix the problem.

You can even go crazy and gap the plugs from .035"-.080" (all factory HEI specs BTW), guess what? No difference in power, mileage, or drivability if everything else is working properly.

That dose not surprise me that they are all talk and advertising. I agree fix the problem do not put a bandaid on it.

There is a magic new spark plug every couple of years. People get excited when they put them in and the engine seems to run better...for a while. Of course, new AC Delcos would give the same improvement over the old plugs for a lot less money. Plus, fancy plugs seem to lose performance more quickly. I like AC Delco in my trucks and NGK in my cars.

I am going to run away fast from fancy plugs. Although I may give champion platinums a try and see how it goes. If is not good will switch to the AC Delcos.

I only use AC Delco plugs. Fancy plugs were actually worse in my trucks. Taylor makes great spark plug wires, but they are not cheap. They have more options than MSD. My dizzy is an MSD pro billet HEI. The taylor wires are 8.5mm IIRC. I bought some black woven mesh that is supposed to be good to 1200 degrees F, to cover the boots and wires under the headers. The plug wires are good to 600 F. This is on a 10.2:1 406 sbc with aluminum heads that occasionally tows a heavy trailer.

I finally had some time yesterday and today to rebuild my dizzy and the truck runs again yay I am looking forward to seeing the light show after it gets dark. I am not shore what was the main problem because there was so many thing efed up. The coil was melted the spark plug wire terminals were lose and bent and the module looked like it got too hot. I do not know how this happened or why and I do not think the broke wire was to blame.
