I finally got the blazer running really good and smooth, Drove it 4 times, on the 5th start up, Didnt want to run for nothing. Wanted to die under idle, black smoke everywhere, and sputtered and backfired teh whole way home.

Got it narrowed down to it missing on a cylinder or 2, not sure which. Pulled the plugs on the Pass. side of the block to find them ALL nasty black and nasty.

Pulled the distributor cap, and found this-

Notice the ribs missing and a line cut into the wall between posts, then the big notch in the nipple for the coil. The cap and rotor were both set on the distributor flat and tight. I pulled out my old cap, and it looks the same as this new one, which is only a few months old.

What is going on? Any help guys?

Well, i can only guess at the year of the motor, and no part #'s on cap/rotors, its just a big guess at it being the right one or not.

And would that cause it to hit on only one side?

Didn't see the one side thing.
Is the rest of your distro in good shape. It could be real loose below the reluctor causing the whole top to shift around??

The peice that holds the distributor from spinning is tight. I dont know much about distributors so you would have to explain what im lookin for. I dont know if the whole assembly is any good. Im at a total loss on whats goin on.

If you know how to pull it out then start there.

Then start inspecting the whole thing. I have rebuilt a few of them. The hardest part is driving the spring pin out of the drive gear.....and it not really that hard.

Grab the shaft that the rotor slips onto and try ti wiggle it. If it moves from side-to-side more than a few thousandths, it's time for new distributor bushings. It's pretty rare for them to wear out, so I would wonder what caused them to give up.

Also check up/down play. Grab the rotor and pull up and push down. That seems to be as bad or worse of a problem than the side to side.

I'd still pull the whole thing though, those tests can be done outside the motor, and something is obviously wrong mechanically.

BEFORE you pull it out, note which direction the rotor is pointing. You'll need to put it back the same way to keep the timing somewhat close. :cool1:

Alright, Ill try wobbling it and whatnot, then ill pull it tomorrow afternoon. What can be done to it when i get it out? Anything i need to look for and do with it out?
