I rewired my hei distributer in a truck i just bought after removing the after market external coil. Now correct me if im wrong but all that needs to be hooked up to it is the harness from the dist to the coil and a switched 12v source to the coil plug next to the tach terminal right?

If you're talking about a large coil in cap HEI then yes there is the wire harness from the module that plugs into the cap and then also 12 volts to the Batt terminal. If you've had the coil out of the cap don't forget to install the metal ground strap that grounds the coil body.

Pretty sure The ground straos ggod. The black wire that grounds on the coil hold down screw correct? Any way now the truck has a hard time starting and when started wont run more than 10 seconds or dies when the throttle is depressed.

Not sure what year truck you are dealing with but if it was originally non HEI then the power wire going to the dizzy may have a (resistor block) on the firewall. I guessed at the name.

Anyway the non HEI vehicles use 12 full volts to start then drop the voltage down to like 8 volts after it is running. You need to make sure you have full voltage at all times to dizzy.

One of you professional mechanic guys can get the exact numbers.

70Jimmy's right. Mine had a yellow wire coming off of the starter to provide a full 12V when the starter was cranking. Not sure what the stock color wire is.

Could I get someones exact wiring description starting at the bat terminal in the coil? where it is supposed to go, or rather where it comes from. The coil I took out replaced alot of other wires so i have no way to trace it back.

The wire that goes to the BATT terminal on the HEI comes from the ignition switch (keyed on power). This wire should be a 10 gauge wire with no resistor.

Ok heres your oppurtuninity to make fun, I looked this truck over a thousand times, didnt notice the wire coupler reducing to 14-16 guage. Damn I hate stupidity. I ran 10 all the way, runs like a dream. Thanks for all your guyses help.
