HEI v. ESC or other mods? (305)

I am running a stock 305 right now, and it has ESC. I just replaced all the hoses and gaskets (including the head gasket) and it is running really sweet. However, on antoher thread someone mentioned that switching to HEI from ESC will give more power or throttle response or something? I'll take all I can get at this point. I am satisfied with the pwer I have, but I could still use more. What does a switch like this cost? Are there any other mods that you can do to a 305 that'll kick up the power? My 305 is in excellent shape, so it will be years before I do the 350 crate thing...

Add fuel injection, increases throttle response and horse power. If you really want to get crazy try a TPI- there awesome.......

I am assuming that TPI means Tuned Port Injection, right? How is that different than "regular" fuel injection?

i have an 82 and i have HEI. i also have ESC. i have a dealer brochure that explains what ESC is and all it does is retard the spark when a sensor detects a knock in the engine and was designed to help make the engine run most efficiently at maximum advance. the code for this setup is LE9, which is a 5-liter motor, 4 barrel carb and ESC and it was not available in california. compression is 9.2:1. HP is rated at 165@4400 rpm, torque is rated at 235 @ 2000 rpm. BTW, the 305 w/ESC is rated to have the most HP out of the 5 motors that they offered which include the 4.1 (LE3) 120hp@3600 rpm, the regular 305 without ESC (LF3) 150 @ 4200, the 350 (LS9) 150 @ 3600 and the 6.2 diesel (LH6) 130 @ 3600 rpm.

if you're looking for a little help with power i have added an edelbrock intake, a K&N air filter w/ the open breather and a set of flowmaster mufflers and put on a new quad carb from holley. i have noticed the increase in power and think the small amount of money spent was well worth the effort. hope this helps.
