Just bought a 1990 K5 for 1900.00 in charleston s.c. 150000 miles cold ac doesnt look like its ever been offroad. having owned numerous 4 wheel drives(jeeps 3 dodge 1 ford 2) i found what i was looking for. I love this truck! Bought the truck off of craigslist and when i got back home with it found an almost brand new set of 31/1050s on craigslist for 150.00. what a day. but the bad. well not so bad ac will freeze you out but the rear window doesnt work. neither do the door windows. any ideas where to start? motors or switches? checked fuses or breakers.. replaced with the electric door breaker and nothing. electric door locks work with both breakers. any suggestions would be appreciated. thank:Ds in advance.:D

You basically answered your own question. Start with the cheapest item in the system. I dont do electrical but common sence tells you start with the fuses, breakers, switches, then the motor if necessary. Fuses, switches, and breakers are cheap, motor is a more involved fix and cost.

If you have to change the motor atleast everything will be fresh since you replaced everything up to that point.

Someone correct me if Im wrong. Welcome to the site man, good luck.

My friends rear window has the same problem and it ended up being a bad motor which is an expensive part! For you though since your windows dont work either I would say your switches are shot, that is if they are hooked up correctly and you dont have shorted out wiring.

I'm puzzled by this as I dont think they are even on the same circuit. I'll have to check my wiring diagrams, but the back window works all the time and the door windows only work with the ingnition on. Maybe it's different for the K5's, sombody will correct me if I'm wrong.

Now to help you out: Pull the rear window switch and check to see if it is getting power. If it is, then head to the back of the truck, pull the access panel off the tailgate, disconnect the wiring harness and try again. If you still have power, then the motor is bad. If at any point you dont get power, you've found the bad section.

For the front windows, try fuses first, then relays, then pull the door panel and with the ignition on, check for power on the back of the switch block. If you have power, you might have a bad switch block ( as you said both windows dont work, so it wouldnt be the wiring past there or the motors), if you dont have power then the wiring between the block and fuse panel is bad.

Hopefuly this helps. I'll post if I find anything else.:D

on the rear window on a suburban there is also a switch that kills power to the window motor when the tailgate is down if it is shorted or not completing the circut it will kill power to the wondow motor. the easy fix is to connect a jumper wire between both terminals on said switch. the switch is located on the upper pass side of the tailgate in the jam.
