I've already replaced mine but my brother's is acting up. It's a 1990 w/ 90k. when it warms up and after it shifts from 3rd to 4th at MINIMUM throttle it begins to shudder until you apply more gas then it goes away and drives normal. Is it dying? Otherwise it shifts great. Possibly a T.C. problem? Any I deas would be greatly welcome. Thanks.

Sounds like the 2-4 apply band or the 3-4 clutch pack is worn. 90K is getting toward the end of the life span for a 700R4. The 3-4 clutch pack is noted as the first area that heat attacks in these tranny's (most used). If he hasn't already done so, change fluid and put a friction modifier in with it. This will only be a sort term fix as it's just about at the end of a complete useful life cycle. 100K is about the average rebuild time. There are exceptions.

hiya. when i replaced my th350 for my new 700, the first one i put in had this problem. The shop i bought it at told me it was the front pump, and gave me another trans, after i told them i wasn't waiting for it. time for new one, sh**t.

Wheels is pretty much bang on.................I have one thing to add. The reason 700r4s always burn out is because people insist on driving in OD in the city. The key to their survival is avoiding operating in overdrive at "minimum throttle", and to avoid gear hunting between D and OD at speeds below 55. You should only be shifting into overdrive once you're at highway speeds.

You probably know thuis already, but too many guys out there DON'T and that's half the reason 700r4s have such a crappy rep!!!!!

MAN!!!! Don't tell me it's a sign that it's starting to go. My 89 has 112,000 and the original owner said it did not have any work done to the tranny. In 4th at low rpm mine shudders too, when I apply gas it smoothes out and all is good till I slow down again.
