.........in the down position. How do I get the window up. the cable broke in the middle and I was able to pull it out , the blue outer sheath is still there, but I cant access the end of the cable that goes to the window regulator nor can I get to the regulator because the glass is in the way.

I removed access panel but that only exposes the motor. How do I get the window up til I can get a cable and where is best place to get the cable??

1984 K5 if it helps any.

Go ahead and remove the glass so you can get in there. Are you sure the cable broke in the middle?

You'll have to expose the cable by pulling the outside covering away until you find where it is broken. I use an electric drill motor to turn the cable. It helps to have another set of hands to help move the window up as well.

Okay, I see where you said that you got the cable out.. Can you cut the cable at the breaking point and pull back the outer shell? If you can you could probably put the end of the cable into a drill chuck and use it to spin the cable.

**UPDATE**

Got the window up. The cable broke about a foot away from the motor side, so I was able to cut the sheath and put a drill on the exposed cable and run the window up.

Thanks everyone.

I just ordered a new cable from LMC, dealer said it was discontinued. Is there anything I can to extra to help the cable not break and be smooth?

Make sure all of your rollers are in good shape. Mine were cracked and broken and I'm fairly sure thats what caused mine to bind and break. My drill does full time window duty, down in the summer to take the top off, up in the winter to put the top on.

The rollers on the regulator, ill check them. Ill probably clean everything inside there and lube it all good.

what grease/spray has people had good luck with?

I just use white lithium spray grease and have had very good luck with it. Lube up the tailgate and door window stuff once a year and have never had any issues.
