So, the body I purchased yesterday turns out to be a 78 and my frame is a 77. The frame should fit just fine except for the middle body mounts which are under the back seat. I would like to know if anybody has successfully done this conversion and how did they compensate for the body mounts. I am thinking that I need to find a 1978 to 1980 frame and remove the middle body mount crossmember so I can attach it to my frame and thereby attached the body mounts for the 1978 body I purchased.

A major question is does the curvature of the 1977 frame match the curvature of the 1978 to 1980 frame so that the middle body mount crossmember can be attached. If not, has anybody done a successful custom modification?

I'm sticking with the body that I purchased not only because it was kind of expensive but it is almost rust free. I don't think I'll find a 1977 body that is as rust free as this body and I like the idea of having regular four people in the backseat.

Set the body on, with pucks and bolts that line up. Fab up your own cross member/mounts.

I have the ORD aluminum 1" pucks. I also have a Energy Suspension poly body mount kit. I also have plenty of cup washers and other OEM washers for body mounts. I plan to have a minimal 1" body lift (from the aluminum pucks).

So, place body on frame and secure the body mounts that can be installed. Then figure out the spacing for the missing mount and fab a base then weld it to the frame?

Does that sound right?

Thats what I would do. Mr. Mig meet Mr. Frame. Maybe some box or rectangle tubing. Might be able to stiffen the frame and/or body a bit if you think a bit about it. I get ideas just by going down the hardware aisle at Homeless Depot and by going in the back at Napa and seeing what they have for metal there.

I have a bunch of tube steel (all different shapes) laying around

It’s too bad about the extra work, but on the upside, a ‘78 tub is way better than a ‘77.
