I needed a multimeter and the closest one to me was in the burb. Unfortunately it was in the truck vault and the rear door latch appears to have taken a crap on me.

Can anyone help me through troubleshooting?

I see there is a latch at the top and bottom. The big hook is still present on top and bottom and the bar that is hooked is there too. The catch that latches the bar seems to work, although I don't know what it's supposed to do.

I haven't bathed it in penetrating lubricant yet, but something feels off in the handle push botton as well as the door just popping open when closed. It doesn't bang open as if the latch is blocked, it just doesn't catch. I'm going to walk back out and see if I can determine if it's top and bottom or just one.

Figured someone here has played with one before and this is the first time I've had the pleasure. Oh yeah, it worked fine the last time I had the doors open last month.

Bottom latch issue. The top resets and then triggers when handle is pushed. Bottom was is tough to move and then doesn't stay latched. Pulling panel off now.

I need some more knowledge of this latch and handle. It's hard to see in there but i feel like there's too much play in the handle. The rod doesn't contact the plate that moves until the end of its stroke. I am sure there are more issues but I was getting carried off by the mosquitos.

I want to look at the mechanism behind number 22. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you. That piece in the middle is what I wanted to see. The junction box for lack of a better term. Mine is floating around in there and I feel like it should be tighter and in turn transferring more movement. I've got the upper and lower latch in my lmc cart, but that other piece doesn't appear to be listed.

I wonder if the issue in the bottom is making the rest not move as it should. I'll take a look in the morning.

Went ahead and ordered the top and bottom latch. Still not convinced that the handle/junction isn't part of the issue. Raining so it'll have to wait till later.

Ok, figured it out....no thanks to you knuckleheads. :D Well nobody but the Jedi that tried to help.

The lower latch mech seized up. The opening mechanism part of the latch was just flopping around. It doesn't catch or reset. The part that the rod attaches to and in turn opens the latch was what is siezed. Due to this the "junction box" was not able to move correctly and was in turn keeping the upper latch from working properly. The junction box is supposed to float and is moved into position by the lock actuator. When it's locked the handle pin doesn't make contact to open the door. When unlocked it's moved high enough to make contact and release the catch mechanism.

I believe that the issue with the bottom latch also damaged something in the lock tumbler assembly. It doesn't want to stay oriented the direction I want. I'll look more into it tomorrow but when I removed the lower latch, the upper functioned as it was designed.

Sorry for the non technical terms of the lock and latch, but maybe this will help someone troubleshoot in the future.
