so i went to go hook up the rubber breather hose on my 14b, when i noticed it didnt look good, i touched it and most of it fell off....if this was jus a plain 14b, or if i did rocks only i would be concerned, but i have pretty much rebult the whole thing and put in a detroit and new gears, and do mostly mud....what can i do??? help me please.

ive already got a tap and die set so thats taken care of, can i just get a factory hose barb from the auto parts store?

just buy a NPT hose barb from a hardware store and you will need a NPT tap you probley only have standard thread taps

you will need a pipe thread tap for the hose barb, i don't think an auto parts store is gonna have it, gonna have to go to a hardware store.

so sears should have it right? i gatta go there anyway to pick up a 1.5" socket for the pinion nut. any idea what size pipe thread im gona need?

pipe size depends on tap size. 1/4" npt should suffice but you might need to step up to 3/8" npt. All depends on the size of the hole thats there. also what size fitting you can get your hands on. A 1/4" npt x 3/8" barb or 3/8" barb x3/8" npt will work fine

thanks, ill get on it!

ill have fun doin it while its under the truck :-)

rember the old trick
if you load the tap up with grease, and go slow, load tap clean, load tap clean
you can do it with out pulling the cover or getting any tap shavings in the housing
thats what i did

i bought one of those.. what do you call its..... hmmmmm

wanna call it a barrel or something like that... like a tube with a slit down the entire thing.... just tapped it down into the hole... put my vent hose down the rest of the way to the axle and hose clamped it... works fine and cost me $.32

I call it a roll pin. Just be sure you fill the gap left over with some sealer.
