Ok, I am having a tough time deciding what I should do. I have a 74 chevy k-10 that I am really just getting started building towards trail use/rock crawling. I have a goodwrench 350 (currently carb’d) in it now with under 30k miles. I got a haywire tbi wiring harness, reman tbi, reman distributor, computer with hypertech chip, edelbrock performer TBI intake, helix spacer, and all sensors for a 350 tbi for $350. I was planning to get a fuel cell and inline pump and a custom tuned chip for my motor. I will also have to change to a more efi friendly cam because my current crane cam has non efi friendly lobe separation. I thought I had it all figured out…now here is my problem…a buddy has offered to sell me his 89 suburban 2wd 2500 for $600. It has the 454 tbi which is a goodwrench replacement motor with 75k miles. All it needs is a waterpump. The tranny is a 2wd th400 that is rebuilt with 30k miles on and it has 14bff rear axle. Should I buy his burb and put the motor in my 74 using my haywire wiring harness that I already have and use its tank? This seems like a pretty slick setup that would be more upgradeable in the future. I was thinking I could sell my 350, 350 tbi stuff, the 14 bolt and the th400 and scrap the rest. The only think the 454 install would need that I can think of is a waterpump, new gaskets (why not), an a/c delete pulley (my truck hasn’t used it’s a/c in 10yrs) and some exhaust mods. I would use the ORD 454 engine crossmember. I just need help deciding what to do. The 454 is serpentine and I was planning to go with the PSC hydrosteer kit, do they make a pump for this application as well?

Thanks guys I know it was a long post, but I can’t seem to get off high center.

My current 350 is pushing 300hp and 330ft-lbs or so, i realize the TBI 454 has less hp stock, but more torque...and definately more bottom end torque. For wheeling purposes I think the increase in low end grunt would be nice. I'm not a mud hole screamer.

How about you buy the burb to use for spare parts and then I'll come down and take the 454 off of your hands?:D
I would rather have the 454, but that will put more weight on your front axle. Still half ton?

The better idea would be to use the 454 and then sell me all the TBI stuff for the 350 so you don't become a parts whore :haha:
