Hello, all. New registered user. First post after months of scavaging this site for info. Best on the web IMO.

So today's goal was to replace the donut gasket at the flange, which I noticed was slightly leaking. Turned into broken stud flush with the hole. Tried drilling/extraction tool which also broke off in the manifold. Tried to cut my losses and drill it out again (goal now was to replace with a bolt), but am unable to drill through with the extraction tool still in there.

Which leads to my point. I need to get the driver's manifold off the truck ('91 K5) so I can replace with one from the junkyard. Problem is, the elaborate accessory bracket is giving me fits. Never thought something this routine would have me so baffled.

Do I need to pull the power steering pulley to get it off? Any ideas? I just need the dang thing off!

Thanks,

Crisis averted, for now. I cut off the bracket, which apparently isn't crucial for accessory function. Got the manifold off, and got the stud drilled out. Plan on replacing with a bolt. This will be in interim solution. Hope i can get it sealed off. Exhaust leaks really grind my gears.

To remove that bracket, you needed a power steering pump pulley puller and installer. You then remove the ps pump, then the bracket.

Well, I got it back together today after work. No leaks. Now I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the accessory bracket doesn't come flying off with a rev of the engine. I feel guilty for cutting off, kind of the same feeling as keeping a secret from mom. Oh well, what momma don't know, won't hurt her!

Thanks for the info guys

I would agree that it should be there, but lots of header kids have you cut the bracket. Have wailed on mine with the back leg of the bracket cut off, and its been fine. If you cut both manifold mount parts of the bracket off, i'd get the necessary pullers and remove your cut one. Then you can go get a salvage one, and replace it.

That is definitely an option I considered. The motor will probably be pulled in the next 6 months, so I thought about going a little different route. I may try to find a salvage one, then cut it in half and reassemble using small tabs with bolts. That way it would be there, but could quickly be removed for replacing gaskets, headers, etc.
