help dumb friend

Hey my friend had to jump his car and he connect the + to the - and the - to the +. now the car is clicking. well besides the battery needing to be replaced what else needs to be replaced. Can the starter be salvaged? im assuming thats all that could be dorked up is the battery and starter. is there any tricks to get it working? i tapped on the starter with a hammer i it just clicked faster.

I knew someone who did this. I'd ran for a while but I think it fried the alternator
