hey i went to hook up the battery to my 80 gmc. and to find out it starts, but, no lights, tach, nothing works. and i tried to turn it off, its still running! so i had to use the choke to turn off the truck.. what the heck did i do wrong? i looked around, and i didnt see anything missing. everything seems to be plugged in. tomorrow im gonna unplug everything and clean up the connectors, ground, etc.. what else can i check? let me know please!

thanks!!!

Did you unhook the connector on the bac k of the cluster?

I pulled mine out, and when i put it back in. i guess it wasnt hoked up square enough and mine did this.

i unhooked it 2 years ago, worked great, never unhooked it again. what im saying is i didnt do nothing, all i did was hook the battery back up no more power anywhere.. weird?? or what? no power anywhere except starter. and hei.. thats it

for what it's worth, my guages didn't work this morning and it tuned out that i didn't have a ground hooked up. there are 3 grounds on my '83 from the guage set - all of them are black wires. i suspect yours is the same. make sure they're all grounded. once i connected this ground, i had my wipers and my guages back. it was entirely unrelated to my ability to start my rig.
