Hi all, I'm trying to wire up a dual battery isolator and need to tap into a wire that's only hot when the ignition key is turned. It is a only a signal wire and will not be pulling any current from wherever I tap in.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? '89 Jimmy all stock

Thanks in advance.

I tend to tap into the Switch Hot wire at the stereo. Normally the Yellow one....but verify with test light.

Thanks - is there anything under the hood I can tap into? I hate trying to stuff my big hands under the dash. My big meat hooks are rarely useful under there...

No where i know of. I have since run a relay from inside to power ign power stuff under the hood. Plus, i try and limit under hood splices, so i would rather tie in under the dash, then feed through a grommet.

But really, if you remove the head unit to get to those wires, it shouldnt' be too bad.

There are other places to tie in under teh dash, this just seems the easiest to me most of the time.

Cool deal I'll give that a shot. I've heard of some guys tapping into the fuse block but I don't see an easy way to do that. Thanks for the info and I'll post up when I get it done. Good idea on the relay too.

They sell taps for the fuse block. Both cartridge and plug type fuses. The tap goes around the end of the cartridge and between the socket and plug of the plug type.
The result is a male quick connect.

What dual battery setup you adding?

I've got just my standard NTB battery still being used as my primary, and adding an Optima Blue top in a driver's side battery tray to run my HAM radio and my ARB freezer/fridge in the back.

Now that is what I'm talking about!! Thanks!

Here are a couple of pictures of how they work.
I can't find a picture of just the cartridge tap. Its the second one down in the bunch. Little curved thingy.

I ended up getting one of these from Autozone... Figure it's overkill to have another fuse in it, but I'm usually a better safe than sorry type of person.

Thanks for the help fellas, I really appreciate it and glad I'm a member of such a great forum!

FYI, got the isolator hooked up last night and everything is working great. Thanks for the help.
