I had to remove my inner fender liners to clear my new tires.

What did you all do with your Battery and coolant over flow tank?
This is on a 88 K5 part of the battery holder bolts to the fender and liner
and the cool ant bottle bolts to the liner.
Any help or pics of what you did would help

took my coolant bottle out and pitched it... plugged the line...

took my battery ground off the alternator, bolted it to the frame, there's a hole about 4" on the rh side of the frame from the cab that the bolt will go right back into... then i ran the cables inside the cab and it sits there for now...

havent done mine yet but there is at least one person here that removed all the heater components and mounted a box in its place. that is what I plan on doing.

Come check it out if you can.... battery is on the firewall w/factory mount modified. coolant bottle on fan shroud

I was thinking of doing the over flow from them and bolting it to the core support. I'm trying to keep the heater core in the K5 and not having to put the battery in the bed if possible.

I bought an aftermarket overflow can from Kragen for like $14 with a bracket and everything. The battery is where it was for now I took the leg that was mounted to the inner and it is standing on the core support. I will see if I can find the post with the pics for you.

I have plans to remove my heater / AC box on the firewall and install dual battery boxes infront of the rear fenders like Rene did in his.

Pics are in here Post #15

I need to see pics before I'll offer any opinions! :deal:

where was it rubbing on the inner liner? did you try cutting the lower portion off in the back before removing it? The bolt for the battery tray that goes through the inner liner doesn't support that much weight. the ones that go into the fender are more crucial. not sure what years they changed but my 83 has the overflow attached to the rad support. I can get some pics up on thursday.

:D Ira I had my batery there in the old truck and I went wheelin in the mud. I was hammering really hard on it. After I parked to go back to work I was walking away and admiring the the fresh Mud Paintjob I gave her, I noticed the batery cables haning down in front of the tire and no batery attached to it. I went over and there was no batery any where! I had to hike back through the mud ( about 100 yard of foot deep slush) to where I started to find it upside down in the tire tracks. Then I had to slosh(with the batery in tow) back to the truck and put the batery back in. I was covered head to toe in mud.(thank god for cintas uniforms):D

DOH. Now I make sure bateries are secure.

Ya it is kinda flimsy and I make sure that it is tight in the bracket quite often. I need to make a reinforcement for now that goes to the frame to take a little weight off of the fender bracing.
