HELP!!! - - - Fuel cell/Gas tank Q\'s - Blowing gas out vent tube!

I've done a custom job on my stock gas tank & skid with several rock ledges in my Sub. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The gas gauge now shows 1/4 tank when empty(found out the hard way).

No other real problems until now that I've got the TBI 454 in, and the electric in-line fuel pump. It flows so much gas back into the tank through the return line, that it blows gas out the vent tube. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Right now I have to keep my gas cap unscrewed a little to vent the pressure.

I would also like to get a fuel cell or gas tank that will give me better clearance. I don't mind losing some of the 35(i think) gallon gas tank. I would prefer if it tucked between the frame rails.

I will be putting a real skid on it after 4x4 iron moves down here to Texas. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Any quick fix to keep gas from hosing everything would be good. Any known gas tank/fuel cell would be even better.

Thanks for your help. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Fuel cell/Gas tank Q\'s --- HELP!!!

I put a 20 gal alum fuel cell in the bed of my last K5, but I would not reccommend unless you run topless all the time. You could still smell a hint of gas inside the vehicle. Hmmmmm...other than that, maybe you need a thicker skidplate!!! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Re: Fuel cell/Gas tank Q\'s --- HELP!!!

Something in the vent system is not right.your building pressure in the tank and that's why it's blowing out the vent tube.
The return line to the gas tank,is it stock or did you add it?
The gas cap,is it a vented gas cap?

A couple things.Go to junkyard(free in your pocket)and pickup another gas cap or get a replacement at an auto parts store. The cap may have gone bad and is not venting.

If the return line is not dedicated and/or it's been "T'd" into a vent line it would prevent the tank from venting as well.
I made the mistake of "T'ing" my return line to a vent tube when I changed over to TPI fuel injection.Everytime I put gas in the tank I would get gas spitting out at me as the vent tube was full of gas.As the gas went into the tank the pressure built up untill the pressure was great enough to blow it out the vent tube.

Anyway,that's just a couple suggestions.

Re: HELP!!! - - - Fuel cell/Gas tank Q\'s - Blowing gas out vent tube!

Sounds like the vent tube it pinched or blocked.
Buy a vented gas cap, I got mine with a lock for under $20 bucks. When you put in a fuel cell make a loop in the vent line before you run it outside (like a plumbers pea-trap on your sink) /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Helps cut down on the fumes and pervent blowouts /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Re: HELP!!! - - - Fuel cell/Gas tank Q\'s - Blowing gas out vent tube!

I ordered a 25-gallon tank, like some of you might have in your blazers.

It will improve height by almost 2". Front to back length by close to 7". Width close to the same but will try to fit it betwwen frame rails as high as possible.

The big skid plate will be the final addition.

Hopefully the tank being deformed explains the gas blowing out the vent. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The hoses are all new so no clogs. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for the help.
