Re: awwe crap ... help !!

thats a serious dick in the butt, maybe it is just part of the casting, im being hopeful here, that the oil circuated to the oil pan. but that is a real ouch, id be pissed, id probly put oil in it, run it, get the gasket, drain the oil back out, figure out whats wrong, put it all back together, and hope for the best, good luck . /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: awwe crap ... help !!

nope , it sat for awhile and so i am out of years on the warranty , it isnt a daily driver . i "might" be able to push for it and win , if it does go , but i doubt it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif i think ill just go pull it off and have a look see /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Re: identify this *PIC*

which engine do you have?
does it have roller cam or rockers?
looks to small to be part of normal hyd lifter

I'm with MJ......looks like part of a lifter to me.
Is the engine still in warranty? I would call GM and send them the picture. Tell them to extend the warranty or have the local deal pull the motor down till they find out where that came from. If that is part of a lifter that lifter might come appart and trash the cam. It may have already trashed the lifter bore.

I also would say that is the retatining clip from a lifter. I don't believe the lifter will come apart though unless you have too much valve lash. All it does it keep the plunger in the lfter when the lifters have no preload on them. It darn sure needs to be changed.
If you change it yourself make sure you leave the valve train in tact, just take off the intake. If you loosen the rockers you are liable to release the plunger and anti pump up spring into the valley causing more parts to be floating around somewhere. Find the bad lifter, turn the engine so it is at the top of the lifter bore, clean it off, wrap some duct tape around it to contain the parts, then slowly back the rocker nut off, pull the lifter out, take it to where you got it and ram it up their butt. Seriously, doesn't sound like an error on the builders part. Good luck.

I'm with John and Grimmy...that's the retainer thing from one of your lifters.

Re: identify this *PIC*

i'll second the hydro lifter. looks like the little lock ring in the top of teh lifter.

Hmm, it seems a bit too thick to be the retainer from a lifter. Those are typically made from a very fine spring wire, maybe a bit thinner than a paper clip wire. Based on the diameter of the curve, it looks like it could be a piece of an inner valve spring. The innner valve springs are made from a flattened wire. How hard is that peice? Is it spring steel or something softer?

hum...that looks to me like a dime /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif looks like your motor is makin you money /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif..no but really...i think they nailed it...i can think of anything else in there that would possible look like that except for the lifters

that is what I was thinking Harry
the dime reference makes it real small diameter as well, too small to be spring part IMO
you wouldnt think a crate motor would have teflon valve seals with retainer rings either but it is about that size.
no one is gonna warrantee it or even look at it unless the motor dies.
so you have 2 choices rip it down or run it.
I say run it.

The motor is out of warranty...I'd pull the intake and replace the bad lifter and check for other F.O.D. then run it with a measure of confidence.

IMO that isnt a lifter wire, doesnt look like a wire to me
