Help identify this plug...

1991 Suburban
Is this a factory plug? It is under the dash on the driver side by the fuse pannel. It has a purple w/ white stripe and White wire going into a diode. The purple wire exits through the firewall, goes into a single weatherpack plug to a yellow wire that comes back through the bulk connector into the cabin again. The diode plug was just taped to other wires under the dash.

I don't know what it's for, but that diode looks like a non-factory add on. Looks to me like someone was trying to bypass something and needed to get the right signal to the computer or controller somewhere.
It looks like factory wiring and termination though, that's a PED (Packard Electric Division, better now known as Delphi), terminal case, and usally aftermarket stuff doesn't use striped wires like that.

I can't recall what that was for, but there was a post some time back about this, and it IS factory. Maybe for Daytime Running Lights? GM sure did some stupid stuff, saving money they were pretty good at, but really, did they need a plug just to solder a diode in?

My wiring diagram for '91 will show it if factory, but will be another week before I get there. I know it's been covered on here before though.

I can't remember the use for that plug, but I have seen it on several GM vehicles. It seems unlikely that it would be anything but factory having seen it in so many places.

That plug is on my '91 as well. I also believe it was put there by the factory, but have never been able to find out what it is.

My truck does not have DRLs.

No DRLs on mine either. I drove this morning w/o the diode in place and everything seemed to function fine. I will just put it back and ignore it. I was just installing my wide band O2 and was cleaning up some wiring as I hooked the guage up under the dash.

Funny, the guy said his was wrapped in duct tape. So was mine. I cursed the PO thinking he did a lousy job w/ what ever it is. Turns out it appears to be the factory that did the sloppy job. I really would have never thought that this is a factory plug.
