HELP! LT1 motor in a 91\' K5?

Can get a pretty good deal locally on a 96' LT1 motor , and was wondering if anyone has used this motor in a heavy truck such as ours , how the powerband works offroad/street , mileage, install problems , etc. will probably switch to speed density ala 1994, instead of the MAF. 4L60e trans. Any info would be most helpful!!! Thanks CC

Re: HELP! LT1 motor in a 91\' K5?

Mud and Sand need a bunch of speed and wheelspin(Horsepower)
Rockcrawling is more off idle torque and mid range torque.
The LT-1 in that car is mostly for hp (correct me if i'm wrong). Therefore if you were rockcrawling you would have to keep the motor tached up to do obstacles where a motor geared towards torque would crawl up. Hope this helps.

That motor is wonderful for both HP and torque..........the only downside is the location of the 'distributor'.........it is mounted down by the crankshaft on the front of the motor.........right in the line of fire of water/mud. Some guys say you can somewhat waterproof the 'Opti Spark' but I'm not sold.......... /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

You can't truly water proof it, all distributors have to have a vent. They build up gases inside tem and if they aren't vented they will pop, you can plug the vents for a short time but not more than a few hours.

Yeah, I know. That's why I said I'm not sold.........but some guys are venting them with hoses upwards and away and making them work *to some degree*. I still have my doubts about a submersion tho............ /forums/images/icons/blush.gif
