Okay, since my subwoofer box turned out so well, I'm going to design and build from scratch an overhead console. It will be made from fiberglass and LineXed just like the speakerbox. So, what does it need to have in it or be able to do? Here's what I was thinking:

1. Lighting-smaller map lights up front and in back and a bigger dome light in the middle.
2. Holds a full size CB radio and maybe house an external speaker for said CB.
3. DVD player/TV monitor(s)
4. Storage
5. Switches or controls?

I was thinking about doing something like Ryoken with circuit breakers and having aircraft style push type circuit breakers in a panel above the head. Just a thought anyway. I probably won't do that since it would be a lot of wiring throught the pillars.

I've thought about doing gauges, but when I'm done with my dash, I'll have more gauges in it than any airplane I've ever flown, so no need to use space overhead for that.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I'm deployed to the middle east right now, so everything is on hold for a few months.

Plasma seems like a poor choice, so I assume you mean LCD?

I don't know what year your truck is, but this looks like it's too long for a half-cab truck. If you have a full-topper, then the whole thing needs connectors to unplug when you pull the top.

You're right, LCD and I have a crew cab, so length should be okay. I should be back in the states by next week, but I'm doing an engine/trans swap, so this has taken a back seat for now.

subscribed......

I already know exactly, physically how I'm building my overhead console.. But not once did I ever think what I was going to put in it! :doah::haha:

I'm thinking CB, definitely some nice maplights/overhead lights/cargo light, SOME switches, maybe some stereo speakers... potentially the rear view mirror, if I can what I'm looking for... I will be running the wires thru my cage........

What I REALLY, REALLY wanna figure out is how to build a seperate, LED, spectrum analyzer/equalizer thing I have in my brain... read a few articles, not an overly simple task... I may just buy a standard car type one and see about canabilizing the case, lengthing some wires, and remote mounting the LED's, maybe slightly larger LED's.. someday....

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm thinking about doing some kind of mounting bracket to screw/bolt to the inner layer of roof. Not really sure yet.

Also, I had thought about putting all the circuit breakers up there too. I'd have to run all the wires probably between the front and rear door. Most jumbo jets have CB panels overhead and I thought it would be pretty cool.

CB panels

got any pics of one? I was just gonna run a Cobra

Got any links to cool aircraft supplies? I've always wanted to investigate airplane parts in vehicles... I gotta figure the quality is sick... switches, lights, etc...

Could get nutty with tons of wires... I'm gonna try to stay under control... I'm definitely running thru my cage down to the glovebox which will limit it somewhat... thats gonna be a project unto itself prepping tube, etc...

man and i thought i was trick when i put a stock suburban overhead in my Crew Cab... plus i'll have a stock Blazer one in a couple weeks for the seats...

you guys ever looked into building vans...? lots of trick ideas on this forum www.vannin.com

mine should be relatively easy... basically a flat panel, recess mounted using Kerts panel tabs between the 2 overhead cage tubes...

Oh, sorry. CB as in Circuit Breaker panel. I was thinking about running circuit breakers instead of fuses (similar to your setup) only have the panel on the overhead console like a jumbo jet (see pic. The arrows point to the overhead circuit breaker panel.) Obviously, there won't be that many cirucits, so the size will be much smaller. Still, however, it would probably be a pain in the ass to run all the wire up to the ceiling/roof.
