So my '00 Tahoe needs tires so I figure while I'm at it, I might as well put a 2" leveling kit in it. I have decided on 285/70R17s or 33/12.5R17s which ever is available. I use this truck mostly street and winter driving with some trips up the to the mountains though some trails so an aggressive all terrain would fit the bill perfectly. And I also can't decide on wheels...

Here's the Tahoe in question:

holy huge pictures batman....size em down!

I've had the Duratracs, and haven't had a better tire for traction in snow/ice/mud that I have had on a street DD truck...not the cheapest and not the best for long wear, but everyday driving in sh!t they were great!

Wheels- Black Rock's

Tires- Well havent used any that are in the choices, I like my bfg at's....

Well crap I hit the wrong one on the poll, ment to check the Black Rock's....

I just it that exact size on my 2500 ram. Due attacks for your purposes.

Got a great deal on a set of FC-II's a few years ago and put them on my 2500HD. I hated them, including the high pitch whine that was so bad I didn't like driving the truck. Tried rotating them and rebalance with no issues. I am no stranger to tire noise as the previous tires on this truck were Trxus MT's and have had other mud radials and several sets of bias Super Swampers on other trucks, so not like I was expecting passenger car tire noise. Wound up setting them back under warranty and getting a set of BFG AT's that got 65k on them with no complaints, and just replaced them with another set.

I like the black rocks and I have Duratracs of the wifes DD trailblazer and they are awesome, quite with great on and off road traction. The only Goodyear tire worth a damn other than the mtr.

My sister's Tahoe runs the Goodyear Duratracs and they've been great. Pretty quiet for how aggressive they are. I wheeled them one weekend in the dunes and they did really well.

I think nomads would look right, and no tires of my choice. But if ur set on those, get the duratrac.

Wow everyone seems to love the duratracs. On the other hand, I posted this same poll on GMFS and got the MT ATZ :doah:

Of the tires you listed, I vote the dura trac's also, my brother had them on his wagoneer before we lifted it and they were a great tire. If you had just asked for any tire suggestions I would have a different choice.

Wheels, that's really up to you. If you like how they look.........who cares about what others think :waytogo:

There is just no way the bajas will do half as good in the snow. Being where you are, i would keep snow traction near the front of my mind.

What's life expectancy on the duratracs? I have heard of guys wearing through then quick.

these have 25000 on them.. those miles put in use on a 99 K2500. rotated regularly.

I can pretty much guarantee the duratracs will wear a bit faster than the BFGs. But i dont think they will wear extra fast.

Zim, are those the E rated tires and how do you like towing with them? How many 32nds do you think are left in the tires?

Thanks, those reviews I took with a grain of salt and didn't want to believe everything I heard. I will most likely be getting the 285/75/16's
