I have an 83 K5 with TH400, NP208. I accelerated hard today and BAM! (loud noise) and then no drive. The engine is happy, but no movement in any gear or transfer case position. I wasn't smart enough to engage the front hubs to see if I could move with only the front, just thought of that. The thing just rolls around like it's in neutral, but I did determine that the front shaft is free in 2x but can't rotate in 4x when parked.
Any ideas on what might have blown, what to check for? I assume a trip to the shop is in my future, but I'd like to know what's up before I go in. My first thought was a busted chain, but I think I read that that would only affect the front drive? Hopefully it's not the trans itself... I thought 400's were bulletproof.
