Ok, so im looking at options for repairing the crash damage to my 86 M1009. An option that has presented itself, and i am very interested in, is swapping a 73-75 full vert body onto my M1009 Chassis, as opposed to fixing the damage to my rusty, falling apart, generally poor condition half vert body thats on there.

Need help from the brotherhood accross the country. Lookin for craigslist ads, local ads, maybe some guys on here, or a neighbor with a neglected truck.

As stated lookin for a 73-75 body and top. hardtop or soft top dosnt matter. as little rust as possible, but im being realistic. 4x4 or 2wd, dosnt matter, a manual transmission equipped version would be preferred, as i intend to go to a NV4500 at some point, but not necessary as i can always address that later if need be.

if only rolling chassis can be found as opposed to just the body, the vehicle can be without an engine, as ill have the 350 out of my camaro that i can put into it, and swap my 86 body onto the older chassis. might be able to sell it as a beat up truck to someone.

Im also on the cheap here, and realize ill probably have to eat the expense to get this body from the west coast most likely. so the lower the price obviously the better. but as long as its cheaper than the body work ill likely need, im open to whatever options are available.

much appriciation for any and all help here.

I have a super clean , no rust 86 silverado K5 with a new 6.2 and 700R4 I'd sell ........but its in my garage in Alaska

Rather than spending $1000 on shipping a body ( with a shipper or just for gasoline and your own truck driving 3000
miles with a heavy load), why not just buy a 73-75 and drive it back to the east coast?

For budgeting purposes, you can buy a running rustbucket 73-75 around here for $1k-2k. If it has to have a decent body with minimal rust, your budget needs to increase to around $3500-$4k just for the truck (if your lucky).

sweet, thanks for the advise guys.

jessie james - budget would be around $1000-$1500 for the body, figure ill spend at least that on the bodywork to my existing truck. hadnt really planned on buying a complete running truck so hadnt thought about what id spend for that.

yellowk20 - appriciate it, but im either gonna go full vert body, or use this one to learn to weld ;) id hate to screw up the one you got.

bp71k5 - thanks so much, gonna look through those links now and see what im dealin with.

found a few possible hits in georga for 1000-1500, a 1974 looks especially appealing. seems to be low rust, and complete unmolested, its listed as not running due to a bent pushrod. hell, i can take the valvecovers off and swap out the pushrods with some good ones i have in the garage, might be able to get the darned thing running. he's asking $1500 for it. sent him an email, well see what happens.

Id just have to swap my diesel engine and hydroboost brake system to the 74, and put the gasoline engine and regular brake booster in my M1009. might be able to patch it together enough that i could sell it as a beat up work truck. apparently even my lift springs i bought for the 86 will still fit the 74 and everything, this might be the next course of action for me. the 74 should also have an NP205 instead of the NP208..... lowmax gears anyone :)
