One of the guys I work with bought a shop and the seller said he got everything he wanted out of it. There was some semi parts here and there but back in the corner was a diesel engine in a crate. Its 6 cyl with a tiny turbo everything is painted red. I would guess it would be about 4.0L or smaller. the only ID marks are on the valve covers and look like this drawing below. This engine looks to be a new reman as its clean and doent have any oil in it.

Just a few more things that may help that symbol was raised and cast into the valve covers. It had 6 small squareish valve covers. The exhaust manifold went down into the turbo not up like most tractors. Round bellhousing mounting surface. I would have said it was a cummins from across the shop but its definatly not a 6-bt or a 4-bt. It would easily fit in a fullsize GM truck. OH and it has a real squarish oil pan. Its roughly the same size as the engine in my ford 655 backhoe, physicaly, but my back hoe is a 4 cyl and non turbo.

The thing is Im betting its still realitivly low HP as the intake from the turbo into the engine was only about 1.5" diamiter, Im guessing its for a gen set or a tractor/forklift of some sort. Also my backhoe is rated at 95 HP.

next time I get a chance to look at it Ill look it over a little better. We just want to know what it is and what it could be used for.

How about something like this? This is a Deutz diesel engine.

put up an actual picture of it.

Deutz's claim to fame is air cooled technology, no waterjackets.

I actually have a 4 cylinder air cooled Deutz engine in my shop right now.

I thought you didn't do dizzles. Or is it an A/C gasser?

The Tatra 8x8's, those ginormous Czech military trucks they use for Dakar, have some variety of A/C diesels, I think Deutz... but like 12 or 16-cylinder, 15 or 20 L displacement or something crazy

I don't build them complete. Actually, the only reason i even have this one is because it belongs to a friend of mine.

what kind of business was it?, my dad works in underground digging (vermeer's) sp?, there the directional drilling machines that drill for cable and such under driveways, roads and so on, kinda sounds like a couple of the motors he just replaced

The guy I work with got a guilty consious and called the guy he bought the shop from. Turns out the engine was forgotten for some reason or another . He didnt tell me what brand it was or anything but it goes in a "sand master" witch is a big trailer with bulk bins or hoppers it has a conveyor on the bottom and the bins are gated. when they "Frac" an oil/gas well they use them to measure how much sand they are pumping down.

About the only other info I got on the engine is its 55hp, and about 3.0L in size. Anyway the previous owner got the engine back. I told my friend to see if he could find out what brand it was anyway just cuz im curious.

Oh and stoneagemaxx it was a general oilfeild equipment repair shop.
