background; 89 scotsdale crew cab dually (chevy) 454tbi 4.10 gears in the D70 rear. I am thinking this is the eaton they were known to come with. please help shed some light on this. :waytogo:

Thats not a eaton. Looks to be a D70 like you said. Not real sure what you are asking :confused:
 
Definitely an open dif.

Go park the truck in a ditch and see if all the tires will spin now. Bet you only one side will spin.
 
Open.

Both sides will spin if the traction they have is equal, so it's not impossible. You should be very familiar with this living where you do. Open diffed cars will do this in the snow quite easily...or gravel.

i am very familiar with how an open diff will spin on one side in snow etc :waytogo: :D but i used to powerbrake this truck at the lights coming home from school years ago to impress my friends behind me seeing all 4 wheels spin. and an open diff should NOT do that :confused:
 
Don't know how or why, but my buddy had an '84 DRW 1T Chevy that spunn all 4 rears as well, and it was open diff. We pulled the whole thing apart thinking that there was somthing wrong with it (and there wasn't :doah: ) but even after we put it back together it acted like good limited slip/locker all the time :confused: To this day we joke about the "air lock" in the dullie :laugh:
