I can't recall the 'name' of that tranny off hand, but it is a 4 speed manual and 4th is an overdrive. Good for economy, especially with a 6.2 but it's a bit of a weak tranny and doesn't have a really low first gear like the SM 465.

For wheeling I'd say pass, for regular daily driver I'd use it.

Found it...

New Process A833
4-speed transmission, with all forward speeds synchronized. Manufactured in both direct drive and overdrive models. 10 Bolt shift cover mounted on left side of transmission case. Early models had iron cases and late model cases are aluminum. Case length measures 10 5/8 . Used in Chrysler passenger cars 1964-80, Dodge trucks 1976-85, and 1981-86 General Motors trucks. GM models may be identified as RPO code MY6 Produced in 2 and 4 wheel drive versions

That is the same design tranny used behind hemis and 44-6 pak motors. The only "weak" part is the OD gear cluster. Looks like you have the cast iron case, which is stronger than the alum case version. Lots of Mopar guys swap these into their rigs to get decent rpms/economy on the hiway with steep gears.

YUP--a mopar!..

Yeah, its a mopar tranny ,the A-833..I missed out on an 82 K10 at a junkyard that had a freshly rebuilt 6.2 and that tranny in it ,with a NP241 T-case!!--I went to get the money out of the bank (500 bucks!)--and when I returned, the morons had already stuck it in the crusher!--they said "you know how many guys say "I'll be right back",and never COME back!...needless to say,I was pissed!...

I had a Volare with that 4 spd OD tranny, and a slant 6--it got 22 mpg!..many telephone company vans here had that tranny/motor combo too..

Thanks guys, now I know what it is and I´ll save it for some future plans.
I´ll keep looking for a 465-205 :wink1: .

I'd put a doubler behind that thing. With 4:1 lo range it wouldn't matter that first gear in about 3:1

If you are going to sell it, then I'd say clean it up and paint it. You could squeaze more $$ out of the sale.
