so when i downshift and do some engine braking (sm465), i get this really nasty whine. i figured it was the transmission or transfercase, so when i swapped the body on the truck recently, i put in a rebuilt unit. i still have the noise. it does seem to be dependent on slowing down in gear tho - could this be a wheel bearing? but why then would it matter if i'm in gear? for what it's worth, i've been getting some death wobble recently... gotta get after that sh!t... any chance the two things are related??

what did u get rebuilt, where do u think the noise is coming from, front, middle, or back of the truck? my guess is it could possibly be your rearend

hmmmm... i have a 14bolt ff in the back. i'll have to check that sucker out. i have a detroit in it - installed that about a year and a half ago. i didn't have the trans rebuilt, but the ck5er i got it from rebuilt it. however, i'm thinking it's not that because i get the same noise with 2 different transmissions. guess i'll pop the cover on the diff this weekend. :( i can't identify where the noise is coming from - i'll have a buddy listen as i go down the road.

i have heard of people developing wierd noises out of the rearend after they put a detroit in, i have one in my truck and no noises. another possibility is your driveshaft angles i recently curred a noise in my truck because the angles were not equal
