Looking for a welder, would like to spend $500-1000.

It seems like welders are awfully reliable and I'm not afraid of a used one.

I'm looking for a MIG and 1/4" is the thickest material I need to weld.

I don't really like flux core wire.

So what would be a good choice for me?

This is the welder I'm used to, I like it a lot

Anything worthwhile on my local craigslist?

I don't know welders that well, thanks for the help :D

if your gonna spend upwards of a grand, definitely go 220, or even dual voltage...

in new, 7 to $800, will get you the big 3's comparible machines.. millermatic 180, lincoln power mig 180, hobart handler 210...

i love my miller 180.. machine, cart and bottle setup for under $900...

it was 800 for the welder/cart.. bottle was a local guy, $100.....

just went and looked, looks like they've gone up to 870 for that deal...... welder is $800..

thats ebay stuff... bought my welder and elite helmet from one of the big welding supply places on there... theres a few that have thousands of feedback.. VERY fast service...

Not an expert at anything, welding included. But my opinion is to get the biggest welder you can afford. I just do small fab work in my garage on my K5 and have a Lincoln SP135T. It works awsome but more and more I wish I would have bought a 180 or 210. I thought I would only need to weld 1/4" at most but finding it would be A LOT easier with a biger welder not to mention I wish I could weld 3/8" occasionally.

I bought a miller 210 from a rental yard. Have put 5 full rolls of wire through with no problems. Paid $500 for it without a tank.

I bought a Millermatic 211 last summer.

I love it, you can run it on 110 when you need to, or 220 and get a better duty cycle and higher amperage.

You should be able to get the welder alone for about $950.

X2

I did my homework, and I'm definatley getting a Millermatic 211. I recomend buying one from a welding supply shop that is a Miller dealer and services the equipment, just incase you ever had a problem, or needed some advice or a part.
