Working on building the next truck in my head. I want to actually have a plan together this time. I'm wanting ext. cab or crew cab, diesel, manual, 1-ton off the bat. This will be a dd/rock crawler/expedition type rig. Something kinda like Willyswanter's old rig so you have a visual. 38-40" tire, probably leaf sprung to start with, maybe linked later.

I'm not sure what to start with though. I will go with Chevy or Dodge, pretty much any year other than 88-94 Chevy as I don't like the square dash. Other than that, I'm pretty open. My main concern is the strength and reliability of the drivetrain. Everything else can be done around that. Which truck (make, year, etc.) will be the best out of the box without having to swap a bunch of drivetrain parts?

Dodge is a plus as it's already solid axle, but I believe they have problems with the later models. SAS is no big deal though if that needs to be done. I'd just like to have the 60 already in the truck rather than as an extra expense.

Whatever you get, make sure you have the ARB fridge. My Landcruiser friends tell me you absolutely positively cannot do expedition 'wheeling unless you have an ARB fridge...:D

1993 crew cab srw Dodge one ton with a cummins and a nv 4500. Plenty of room to move the axles around to fit bigger tires and plenty of sheetmetal to cut. The huge disadvantage is these are expensive.

Dana 60 Dana 70 with an overdrive 5 speed and a 205. What a way to start
