So as I'm planning this simultaneous repair/upgrade build I get stuck on picking a toolbox. I already have an bedrail mounted toolbox and I was originally going to replace it with a flush mounted toolbox. Then my Dad suggested going with the fender well mounted boxes instead so I can still use the length of my longbed (I pride myself in carrying full sheets of plywood and still closing the tailgate).

My points of concern are toolbox space. I'll mainly hold a light set of tools and then recovery/survival gear. I was also throwing around the idea of mounting the battery banks back there along with the compressor for the onboard air but wasn't sure on a plan of execution.

I was also originally planning to mount the high lift, axe, shovel, pick and whatever else I'm forgetting along the fender wells but would have to relocate those if I used the fender well mounted box. I was also looking for other mounting points as a contingency but haven't found anything I liked yet.

I did not want to use anything top mounted as that space is going to be used for a bed rail mounted lightbar/cage for of course lights and that slantback tonneau I was talking about. At least then with the FWbox I could use the bed as a tent. I also wanted to cage the bed and cab separately as well but then that threw a wrench in the whole toolbox scenario completely.

What do you guys think? I guess I'm mainly looking for advice at this point lol:D

if you do go the pork chop boxes, you can still mount the hi lift/ axe/ shovel to the lid/top of the pork chopper. it wont be hidden under the side of bed rail, but atleast it will be easily accessible.

Yea side boxes are good for keeping the box usefull.
I got a flush mount box in my sb, it`s super nice but takes up alot of room.

Hey I said tools would go in there too :P

Do you guys think there will be enough room in the side boxes? I'm afraid there will be less space compared to just a flush box. I can't seem to find a site that lists cargo space either.
