I came to my bros here at CK5 to help me pick a new truck for my borther in law.
He crashed his 03 Tundra and wants a new half ton PU. He said he would buy what ever I picked. He wont modify it much except maby tires.
It needs to be able to get around ok off road. Nothing extreme but it will be a hunting rig and will see mud, snow, rutted roads ect. He does not tow anything and hauls no heavy loads.
He wants a half ton 4x4 short box 4 door.
He would buy another new Tundra but they are too butt ugly and big. So he is looking at other options.
I would like to hear pros and cons of the trucks I have listed in poll
Please keep discussion to trucks in poll There are no other dealers where we live except the big 3 and Toyota............... Errr well I guess Toyota is #1 now.
I am leaning to the 4 door Taco ORD

The new GM half tons in the crew cab have a short stumpy bed on them, unless he is talking about the extended cab with the 4 doors. The GM trucks get pretty decent gas mileage though. I was not happy with mine for hauling and stuff. The dodges have the Hemi:saweet: but get crappy in town mileage but have the mds (multiple displacement system) and my buddy says he gets about 23 mpg or so on the highway with his. The fords are alright in the half tons, but I don't think the F150's look as good as their big brothers the Superduties (but I'm kind of bias) The dodges sit higher than most trucks. I was shopping for 1/2 tons about a year ago and looked at them all pretty good. I bought the GMC sierra crew cab 2wd and hated it and traded it for my super duty. If I could do it all over again. I would have gotten the dodge.

Also, a poll would be helpful.

$50K when you're done being screwed.
Get a 2007 Silverassic K2500HD with LQ4 and 4L80E and 4.10s.:wink1:

For what he is planning on doing the Tacoma is a very nice vehicle. Why pay for the Ford, Dodge or Chevy when he isn't going to use it. The Tacoma can do everything he needs and will last for a long time. They are well built, and my brother loves his to death. He uses it for hunting and light off roading, nothing major, and it just keeps going. It is an 06 with the new 4.0 V6 and it gets pretty decent mileage with the 6 speed manual as well.

I agree with lectric80 if he knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will never do any heavy towing or hauling. I personally like to get more truck than I need in case my priorities change down the road. But if he is positive, then the Taco is a good truck.

I would go with dodge, i recently purchased a dodge 2500, its a great truck but its a gas gusler. the new 1500 with the mds is the way to go.

The new GM trucks all have AFM (used to be called DOD) on all but the 6.2, 4.8, and V6 . Its the same thing as Dodge's MDS, with V4 and V8 modes.

What the heck is a 1/2ton?? Is that a car??:p: :haha:

Seriously, he should buy an used truck that is just a couple years old to save a bunch of money, wait a year, and then buy a 1/2ton Dodge with the hopefully released V6 baby Cummins.

Gas is for girls, a diesel 1/2 is my vote.:D
