I've got bald 285/75/16's, a four inch lift and most of my miles are on the street. We do see a good bit of snow in the winter, so I want something that doesn't suck in the snow.

I am not committed to a size yet but bigger would be fine. Maybe even tall and skinny. I am also still thinking about hummer tires. What would you buy?

I have loved the Wrangler Duratrac since the first time I saw one. I have them and they are very quiet and I love the way they look.

Those do look nice. Not sure I want to put $1000 worth of tires on a $600 truck though. I also saw some general grabbers today that looked tough.

lots of snow on road = a/t tire .

general grabber at/2 is good and bfg at/ko also .

both those tires snow plow guys love on the plow chat forum I am on .

also the duratrac from g/y is a heavy hitter.

you just missed last month ebay / discount tire $100 off $400 or more coupon you could use 3 times . that's how I got my 35x12.50x16.5 bfg at/ko tires new for my plow truck . and new credit card got me $100 cash back in first 3 months if $500 spent.

there is deals and also c-list . keep a eye out.

fyi the hummer tires guys don't like in snow . to old / dry / hard rubber . some have had little better luck with custom grooving of the tread.

selection is limited . but if you want tall / skinny 255/85/16 = 33" and skinny . cooper has 1 or 2 in that size . and few newer/off brands .

might not be just for you but new 15" steel wheels and swap over these . http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317344

i've had real good luck with Treadwrights Guarddogs. they're a little on the loud side but inexpensive. got about 40k on them now with a little less than half tread left. that if you dont mind retreads.

I've heard of those, that an internet only thing or something a local shop could order?

i ordered mine online, dont know of any dealer but they shipped fed ex for about $30 a tire. didnt use much weight to balence either

Duratracs are the best all around tire Ive ever seen or owned. Theyre great on the road, VERY good in the rain which is hard to come by, and are decently aggressive for off road.

I loved my duratracs, aggressive offroad, amazing in snow, look tough and meaty. But quiet as a car radial on the road. I wish they made them in 37s

Still no new tires. Had to buy fuel oil first.
Looking at 35" or a 315 75 16.

The Duratracs and newer BFG AT both have the snowflake/mountain symbol on them(the BFG in most sizes, but not all). Not all tires with that marking live up to it, but with these two I believe it.

Nothing wrong w/ the cooper discoverers you're using now. You could always buy a new set of those or spend a little more and get the BFG ATs, old or new style.
