okay... I have an 87 k5, stock. It's missing and bacfireing at just about any RPM. I replaced the ignition module about a mounth ago.(she left me dead on the roadside) About 2 weeks later, the missing and backfireing started. Since then I have replaced the ignition coil and the pick-up coil, oh yea, and the fuel filter. She is still missing and backfireing. I will replace the plugs, wires, cap and rotor this Sun. at that point I will do the timeing. Hopefully the missing and bakfireing go away then, but if not, dose anyone have any trouble shooting suggestions a novice but willing garage machanic can try .......

Almost certainly not your cap and rotor, save your money and simply inspect both of them.It could be, just not likely to find even 10 percent of similar posts here solved by this.

Get the thought of throwing money at this problem out of your head early, or you'll go broke before you fix it.

If it needs new plugs/wires, do them. Do a GOOD visual inspection on the engine, make sure any and all vacuum lines are connected properly and in good shape.

A visual inspection was one of the first things I did. I checked what vaccum lines and wires (I know of) that would have an affect like I'm haveing if they were bad. When I replaced the pickup coil the teeth from the shaft were very corroded (cleaned them). It's been about 2 yrs since I did a tune-up (cap, roto, plugs wires) Wires are covered on warranty, and the rest well, not to exspensive. I guess I will get some vaccum line while I'm there, and just start replaceing. However, I was told I would need to disconnect the timeing connection from the distribtor before I can do the timing. Do you know of this ? And wich one is it (at the control module, right?) Thanks

Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. First, get a spray bottle with a drop of dish soap in it, and spray the wires with the truck running and look for any sparks.

Well I kinda did something like that. Before I did the whole Plugs, wires, cap and rotor thing. A buddy at work suggested to start the it in the dark and look for sparks or arcing. After carefully going over the wire set my son and I found a small what looked like tp be a blue flash coming from the top side of the cap next to one of the wire terminals. Since it had been about 2 yrs since I did a tune-up we replaced everything, Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. she runs loike a champ !!!! Thanks for the suggestions
