I'm working with an architect to design a 4 car garage in my backyard. He was using a turning radius of 21' which I think is a little tight for what I drive.

Anyone have turning radius specs. for long bed, 73 to 87, 4 wheel drive, Dana 60 front, standard cab pick up?

How about a crewcab?

I'm assuming rear dual wheels would'nt make a difference.

Thanks,

Eric M.

design the driveway with the biggest radius you can. You'll end up backing a trailer into it some day, and boy will you be cursing when it's too tight =)

X2.

Think of the longest rig and use that as a template.

You would think SOMEWHERE in that pile of papers I have ... but no, I can't find it.

My experience is that the dually DOES make a difference, at least my slightly narrower one.

I'd take mine out and drive it in circles for ya, but I don't have a motor in it. I think your best bet is to measure it yourself in a parking lot or something, and then add ten feet =))

Take the truck out in the yard, if you can, and turn a circle and then measure the outside to outside tire tracks. Do NOT do a full lock-to-lock because you do not want a drive that requires you to do a full lock turn everytime you use it. I worked construction in the summers when I was in school and whenever we made a turn-around or circle driveway for somebody we always made sure you could easily run a longbed fullsize truck through it using this method.

Can I come over and help push it in a circle?!

I was hoping someone had some specs. My issue is space, I need to know how tight I can turn my rig, not so much what is ideal.

I guess I'll need to find a big parking lot.

Thanks,

FWIW According to the brouchure for the 79' model K5 turning circle is 37.1'.

Dangit ... where'd you see that? I've been poring over the brochures and I'm just getting cross-eyed.

OK, now we're getting somewhere. Would a long base truck have a larger or similar turning circle?

Thanks,

Eric M.

A long base truck is going to have a larger turning radius then the K5 has. Add at least 10' for safety, although you might be able to get away with less.

And yeah, Eric, longer WB vehicles need more turning room -- are yours all single-cabs or have you any sixpacks?

I've got standard cab single rear wheel pick ups, standard cab dually pick ups, 1 crewcab dually and one standard cab 12' dump with the CC 14 Bolt rear.

Is there a trick to getting the text any larger in those links you guys posted ... or should start looking for a magnifing glass?

Nah, I had a crappy scanner when I started.

OTOH, I can't find ANYTHING on pickups in the brochures. If you do happen to find anything, lemme know and I can dig out the original ... but I don't think GM is gonna be much help here. Measuring tape time ;)
