help needed with fuel pump replace

Turn the crank over one revolution, this will turn the cam 1/2 and the fuel pump push rod should now be all the way up.

Quick tip: If the pushrod is falling out on you, use some white grease on the pushrod to hold it up in the block while you wrestle the fuel pump back on.

sure...won't hurt a thing....

Oh,, and X2 on the grease trick.....grease up the push rod..slide it into the block...put the pump in place and bolt 'er up..

Got the grease trick to work. nice tip.

I had to turn the engine by hand to return the rod. I was real concerned about breaking something. I applied toruqe to the gasket and then decided to remove it just to be sure it was ok. Then I reused the same "new" gasket. Should I have gotten another gasket?

On small blocks, you can take out the bolt in the front of the block that aligns with the fuel pump push rod bore, and install a longer bolt or threaded rod, that will butt up against the push rod and hold it in place while you install the pump..dont tighten the bolt too much or it could damage the push rod--and remember to remove it and replace the original short bolt before starting the engine!..the original bolt is just there to act as an oil plug..

On a big block, there's a pipe thread plug you must remove to get the push rod out, after removing the fuel pump..on these the grease trick works best..
