Help Needed

Well I know this is Truck Place. But my friends needs to figure out what wrong with his berreta. 89' 6 cylinder, auto. any ways the engine keeps cutting out. it really hard to start, and once in a while it will make clunking noises. i cant figure it out, i dont know if he messed up the trans.

is it FI? how many miles on the engine. And what do you mean by cutting out, is loosing power or dying?

drying. it FI had new injectors put in about 6 months ago so i dont think that a problem

gosh I dont know much about cars or FI, more old stuff with carbs. I'd check timing, vacuum, compression, sounds like it could be alot of things.

Well it's obvious - he's short 2 cylinders!

It is kinda hard to tell from your description. It is guarranteed to be a problem with fuel, air, spark, or something mechanical.

Did this start all at once, or did it come on gradually? When does it cut out - idle, at speed, tip in, tip out?

Harder to start cold or hot? Can you describe the "clunking noise" a little more? When does it happen?

What did he drop the trans for? How long ago?

Sorry I got more questions than answers.

well all i know is we had to push it for 10 miles in the pouring rain. most of it was downhill

it could be either spark fuel mabybe mechanical. I check all the vacumm lines when it sarted happening, also check all the plug wires.


it came on gradually. the clinking noise happened only twice i dont think its the trans because it shifted good.

sorry gotta edit the droped trans part. i meant it more like he might of done some damage to the trans

also forgot to add there was a very quite tick if you put your ear up to the engine.

oil pressure? low oil can guess the lifts to tick

it kinda hard to know oil pressure. the gauges dont work(digital). we just got it street legal agian last week.

i dont know someone said bad gas it was running perefect till tonight. when it broke down we(I) pushed off into a park and i was checking everthing out 10 minutes later it starts pissing Rain. if its not bad enough. we just went out to drive the car a little and get some dinner.

well my friend say everything runs good so we go to the library to go get a repair manual the car dies in the parking lot. it wont start. so i had to call a friend of mine to come and give us a tow. a half hour later he showes up with his trailer. it took me, and my 2 freinds to get the thing on the trailer.

well thanks for all the help eveyone. but the car no longer excts. i help haul it to the junk yard today. my friend almost rear ended my truck . he forgets to grab his newer battery out of it. ya he though it was the computer. but oh well the yard paid him $175 and he only had $300 in it total so he didnt lose to much.
