Hey guys, need a little help with my leaf spring installation. I was cutting the bolts off the front bracket of the front leafs with a sawzall, and sliced into the bracket. I'm guessing this is a major stress point, so I need to replace the front brackets (may as well do both). I don't have a torch, and it looks like they're riveted on. Do you know of anyone in northern LA or Ventura County who can come cut these things off and help me install new ones? While I'm at it, I'm sure I'll need the bolts cut on the rear too. And if someone can help me install my NP205, that would be great too......I fought it for hours but couldn't get it on the shaft. Of course I'll pay a reasonable price. Thanks for your help!
 
I knock the rivets off of my brackets with a chisel and a 3 lb. sledge hammer.

Next time if your bolts are seized up that bad you could use a grinding wheel on an andgle grinder and knick the head of the bolt down quite a bit then use a flapper wheel in the angle grinder to finish if off, don't have to worry about messing much up with the flapper wheel.
 
Thanks, I have an air chisel so maybe I can use that. I don't know if I need the b52s, this is just a beach ride that my son will be driving to school. Maybe a little light off-roading. Looking for just stock replacements but I can't find any on the web. Any suggestions?

Any pictures of this bracket damage? If it's a groove cut in there, it could be welded up and ground back to flat to save having to remove the whole bracket
 
i would remove spring

clean up any oil/grease / junk

and have it welded shut both sides .

then flapper wheel the spring bushing side smooth .

die grinder bit the seat area for the bolt head .

call it good. once you pop the rivits there never as tight with bolts for the most part. that's a fairly easy weldup job for a half way competent welder to do super easy . if it was in my shop now it would be fixed this way .

Thanks, I'll see if I can get a mobile welder out. I'm sure it's gonna be a fortune. But sounds like my best option.
 
Thanks for your help, I got the front bolts cut out and the bracket repaired. So here's the next problems.....

First of all, which way do the eye bolts install? From the out side, going in towards the vehicle? Or the other way?

Also, the rear shackles won't line up with the leaf spring bushing. Do I need to rotate the shackle to line it up?
