Today the k5 started sounding like it has a rock in the chrome wheel cap but it got worse and worse over a couple of miles but would only be noisy under 10 mph. When it shiftes into 2nd and you give it gas the truck shakes and the motor sounds like it is running ruff but its fine in 1st just the noise. Please dont tell me its the good ol' 700r4 on its way out. I started thinking it was the rear pinion seal squeeking cause it has had a leak for a while but after the shaking when giving it gas in 2nd I have no clue. This in my only vehicle right now and need it running well. Help please.

That was the first thing i checked ane the whole driveline is solid. No side to side or up and down. All fluids are full, dif, t-case, tranny.

No, how do you check the back? The same as the front? I just did have a rear seal start to leak the other day.

I just went out and jacked up all 4 corners and all the wheels feal tight, took all the load of the rear driveline and the u-joints are tight. I cant figure it out. i am going to go now and drive it again and see if it will go through all the gears. Before I was at my house when it got bad and I didnt drive it over 2nd gear.

Ok, Back from the drive, it goes through all the gears no problem it just shakes when it is in any other gear than 1st when to push the gas, not bad but enough. Noise is not so bad. Have no clue.................

Sounds to me. You have a engine problem not trans. Tune up? Plug wires? Dist cap roter? Dist module? fuel filter? ECT ect?

Yeah, or maybe a broken engine mount??

After driving it today I started thinking the engine needed a tune up and the noise is either the t-case seal or pinion its defantaly in the drive line though. My engine mounst are good. Just replaced them a year ago and they looked great yesterday. thanks for the help enery one!

That was a thought that went through my head yesterday. Im going to grease them today and see what happens. The noise is not as bad as it was but it still shakes when under the engine load but when coasting it does not.

So it's perfect in 1st gear and then all other gears make a "grinding noise"? Or is it just above a certain speed? And everything is perfect when coasting?

Have you checked the nut on the pinion?

It makes the squeeking, scraping and some times poping noise under 10mph. it does not shake in 1st gear but it does in any other gear when under a load but when I let off the gas it will go away. I am going to replace both u-joints this weekend and see if that is it. What would I need to do to check the pinion nut? Torque it down?

It should be tight. If it isn't, the pinion can move around a bit and make grinding noises.
