Hey,
I'm in the middle of the crossover installation. The problem is my 2wd sector will not slide all the way into the 4x4 box that is on my truck. I don't know the year of the sector in question, because it was purchased off this site.

It will slide most the way in, but the last inch or so will NOT jiggle in for anything.
Any tips for making this work ?
I turn the steering shaft by hand and try to line up the gears inside before putting the sector in. I then continue to move the steering shaft a bit back and forth to account for the cut of the gears, but this thing will not move at all.
Could it be getting caught on a lower seal or somethings ?
Let me know what the deal is.

Re: HELP! Sector shaft back into box....

Did you remove the lower c clip washer and seal? It may be getting cough up on that. Have you tried tapping it in with a rubber mallet? Try lubing it up before sticking it in. (we are still talking about the sector shaft right? /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif)

If the teeth are aligned correctly, it should drop right in. The seal may cause a slight drag but not much.

Lube it up before you stick it in!

Turns out it was the wrong sector shaft.
Picture can be seen in my webshots...

The bolt patter is the same...the spline end is the same...The threads are the same...the length is equal to certain repescts. But ! It doesn't fit. I had throw the crapp factory setup back on.

I had another thread going and the sector turned out to somethign from a non-variable steering box...where as my 82 box is variable steering.
