What should the cost of a sending and fuel pump be for a 91 fullsize? My buddy has his truck in the shop for a bad fuel pump. He just got a call from them telling him the sending unit is broke as well and it will be $550 to replace it. Along with labor Total of $1000:eek1: They got to be joking right! Help

that might be a bit high. .

shop costs and all the stuff to go with it add up. i just got a new sending unit for my truck same basic one my cost from the parts store to me cash there price was 250ish. so with basic 80-100% mark up 550 sound about right. but the 500 labor is a bit bogus. 1-2 hr labor is about all it should be. but thats if the lines are good and all comes right down and out. ask what the labor time is and rate per hr. then we can get better idea.

I had the fuel pump changed on my 98 tahoe a few months ago, paid 480 total.

That price seems a bit high to me.

was yours pump only or sending unit assembly? big price diffrence in those 2 for a 98

yeah, not a bad deal. It was like 280 for the fuel pump/sending unit, so about 200 in labor.

i dont think thay marked up the sender unit on your bill. you got real lucky.

i bought the same fuel pump/sender unit from schucks 2 years ago for 180. They just aren't as expensive as I thought they would be.

Sounds like a scam to me for a few reasons.

1. If it was in the shop for a bad fuel pump then how is the sender bad all of a sudden?? Was the fual gauge reading incorrectly before he brought it, or towed it to the shop?

2. $1000 is way to much for that amount of work. Especially on a truck as you stated. Just move the bed back aboot a foot and replace the sender and pump.

3. I changed the pump and sender on mine aboot 2 years ago for under $250 in parts.....that makes it $750 for labor...??

Send him to me and I'll get it changed in half the time and half the cost for him.:deal:
Serious...
