Ok I'm tryin to set the pinion angle on my new rearend. My t-case output is pointing down 5 deg. So should the pinion be pointing up or down. I've searched and did't find a clear answer. Need to figure this out ASAP.

You need three things, the angle of the t-case output, the angle of the driveshaft and the angle of the pinion.

You want the operating angles to be the same (the operating angles are the difference between the driveshaft and either end i.e. if your t-case points 5 deg down and your driveshaft is 22 degrees, the operating angle at the upper joint is 17 deg.)

I have not done it like Chris, is it a cv rear shaft or not, that makes a difference? If no CV it needs to mirror the angle of the top shaft i.e. 5* up

Ok the driveshaft angle is around 21 deg. before it binds. The angle on the pinion was at 0.

You need the angle of the driveshaft when it is installed in the truck.

If no CV it needs to mirror the angle of the top shaft i.e. 5* up

That's not quite how it works.

BTW, setting the pinion so that the operating angles are the same is no guarantee of no vibes. A lifted K5 has quite a bit of angle on the two u-joints, a cv driveshaft is the only surefire way to get rid of vibes.

For me, I had the least vibrations by pointing the pinion (w/non-cv driveshaft) straight at the t-case.

i feel your pain i had that same issue with my blazer before i finally got a cv shaft.

Huh I always thought with a rear just aim the pinion pretty much straight at the driveshaft...? Thats how mine is and has no vibe.
