hey guys i got 89 k5 i took her to the super chevy show at maple grove raceway last weekend 180 miles away from my house the rear end started to make some noise while i was there i pulled it apart yesterday i seen that the carrier bearing looked worn and upon looking at the parts some more i seen that both races spun in the caps has anyone else had this happen? the cap and rear end housing dont look bad at all but im sure some material was removed from the races spinning. Am i screwed and have to find a new housing and caps? im pretty sure thats what the answer is going to be. Thanks for the advice in advance or if you have a rear for sale and you are around long island NY.

i have seen this at work (gm technician), with large tires, spinning the rear wheels, too much traction and not enough clamping force on the carrier bearing caps, do you have the 10 bolt rear end? if so then if not too much metal was removed you can knurl the caps and roughen up the case to get you by for now but i would suggest replacing with another rear end, upgrades!
