i have a damn magnum with a 3.5L its making a ticking/rattling noise
my buddy thats a mechanic thinks its a timing belt going bad..

does anybody have a 3.5L and have had this issue?
and how much was the cost of repair. thanks for any input guys

Loud ticking noise that sounds like a lifter? If yes, it needs rocker shafts. reeaaallyyy common on that engine. They come as assembly's from mopar with new lifters. easy peasy to change.

google 3.5l rocker shaft assembly. This is a very common problem. The rocker shaft is located by a pin, an the pin fails. when the pin fails, the oil holes in the shaft don't line up and the lifters get starved for oil.

that sounds like it could be one of the issues, but its gotten progessively worse today alone. i called Team Ramco here in yuma az there going to diagnose the problem for me.

the belt was supposed to be replaced at 105k miles and im at 127k miles.

The belts can go much longer than recommended.
Sounds like the guys got you diagnosed.

still havent heard anything from ramco yet, but they help us Marines out quite a bit,
Flash the owner is prior service and his son is a Marine labor for us is half price (thank god) hopefully nothing to serious is wrong because SMOKEY (79 Jimmy) is supposed to be finished this month.

Apparently the 3.5s at least in the chargers have a push rod that's a hair too long, causing a bent valve usually. It's under warranty as long as you're under the mileage.

No push rods on a ohc engine.

I have seen the rockers get so bad that they hold the valve open.
