I have a project that I am stuck on and I am trying to find a solution. If you can tell me how to fix this problem you have a friend for life.

I have a 84 K5 Blazer that used to be a diesel i swapped in a 350 and a 700R. I bought a wrecked 98 race truck with trick 1 ton axles and air lockers. Its the full truck I have lots of Pictures but I can't attach them yet (new member) but my email is halo5707 hotmail I can email anyone pics.

when I got the truck home I quickly found out that the 1 ton axles are not a direct swap like I thought. Different steering, drivers side diff drop, the rear are disk brakes, lots of stuff just different.

I really want to use these axles will a crossover steering and a different transfer case solve my problem? I was going to use the new steering gear box but it mounts to the inside of the frame rail instead of the outside. This truck has a 700r tranny as well, but the transfer case ( i was told its a 203 same as my blazer) is on the opposite side can I just swap them out even though its a different year?

I hope you can give me some pointers I really want to build this K5 up with these parts it will be insane if I can finish it.

Thanx for your help.

so you want to use a driverside diff axle on a chevy? yea just use a ford t-case, not sure what you need to adapt it and i have no idea about the steering. someone smarter than i will chime in soon and get you your answer.

Ok first things first, I will assume the " 98 race truck" was and IFS truck that is now solid axle and that it is a GM truck.

If that is the case, from what you said it more then likely has a ford d-side diff front axle to match the factory IFS d-side drop t-case. Neither your 84 k5 or the 98 race truck should have a np203 case in those years and np 203's never came behind a 700 trans.

An 84 k5 with a 700 trans should have a 208 case (aluminum housing chain drive slip yoke) and the other truck it's hard to say, but if it has a 700 trans as well, just swap the t-cases. That will give you a d-side drop to mathc your new front axle.

Steering, swap to cross over , that simple, there may be other ways to make it work, but with the improvement in geometry and strength gained from cross over, that would be my sugestion.

Rear disk brakes, not a problem, run new lines or mod your current lines to work, e-brake setup, that will vary depending upon what rear axle you have.

We really need some pictures to better direct you in your build, you can always upload them to a photobucket account and paste the link in a post. :D
