I need to find out what I need to do to change my 1972 GMC Jimmy Alternator w/external regulator to a new alternator w/internal regulator. I need help ASAP because this thing is draining my battery quick since everything is running off the battery. I am converting to an internal type because it is evedentally better and the external regulator costs as much as the alternator with the regulator built in, so why not?

this is what you have to do take
take out your regulator and put a jumper from 1st to the 3rd connector, and another jumper from 2nd to the 4th. it does not matter from what side you start. the jumpers should be connected as follows
blue-red
white-brown

on the internalregulated alternator. from the rear the blue should be on the right and the white on left.

power is obious(sp)

anymore questions let me know.

You can also get a kit from M&H Electrical Fabricators that contains a nice plug-in jumper and an adaptor for the alternator.

dune_goon,

just saw that you're near pismo. i was up there this past weekend. it was an impulse thing, i just packed up and took off, camped out at the beach and the next day i went and hiked bishiops peak. i needed an excape, it was worth it. maybe next time,
